As we are nearing the 2019 closeout, our minds quickly turn to what is new and ahead of us. The automotive industry “Best Buy” awards lists are out and they have our set our sights on all the new and upcoming vehicles for 2020. We combed through several sources for the best car buys for the 2020 models and noticed both similarities and differences.
U.S. News and World Report posted their “Best Buy” list way back in April, but most of their picks match up to the current lists that have been published recently. Maybe they got lucky as they were looking into their crystal ball and their predictions will ring true in the new year. We also looked at Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Awards of 2020, published 11/20/2019, and Consumer Guide Automotive 2020 Best Buys, who just released their winners.
All the lists we reviewed gave a special nod to the crossover vehicle as it continues to enjoy impressive sales growth. Many auto industry analysts believe that this upward trend signifies a more stable, permanent shift in car buyers’ preferences, and automakers are allocating their product-development resources accordingly. With classifications like Compact (Premium) Crossover, Subcompact (Premium) Crossover and Midsize (Premium) crossover, you can see that the crossover vehicle is continuing the trend of high demand and is here to stay.
Hybrid and electric cars are continuing to increase in numbers, however, only a few pure-electric vehicles are offered in all 50 states. That is expected to change as new EVs continue to be introduced and new public charging stations continue to pop up everywhere.
Be mindful that each publication took into account quality, affordability, safety features, driving dynamics, dependability, the cost to own and resale values. With so many categories and classifications, potential buyers have lots of options.
